Thomas Jones Finds A Home In Kansas City

Charlie Klein

The Kansas City Chiefs signed free agent running back Thomas Jones to a two year, five million dollar contract today at Arrowhead Stadium. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jones is due to make three million in the first year of his contract and two million in the second, with $500,000 in incentives.

The New York Jets released Thomas Jones last week feeling that Shonn Greene and Leon Washington were their two best options for the 2010 season. While I do not necessarily take much issue with that, I would still argue that Jones has a lot more left in the tank than his age would lead one to believe.

Jones has had three consecutive 1,000 plus yard seasons, the last two of which have come after the age of 30. He will be 32 at the start of the 2010 season. Jones does not even have to be the guy in Kansas City. The feature back for the Chiefs in 2010 will be the third-year former Texas Longhorn Jamaal Charles. While there is still some work to be done on the Chief's offensive line, adding Jones goes a long way towards their possible success in 2010.

And maybe Thomas will be humming a tune that sounds a little like this:
