EPIC FAIL: Sammy, Why?
Charlie Klein
For a minute there we all forgot that Sammy Sosa even existed. Sosa has enjoyed relative anonymity as names like Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Roger Clemens, and Barry Bonds get the most press for their usage of steroids. We all easily sleep on Mr. Sosa in large part because he has been irrelevant up until now. And that is why he is deserving of today's daily sporting fail.
Yoel Adames of ESPN Deportes reported yesterday that Sosa remarked that he will not allow his legacy to be tainted by allegations of steroid use. "I will calmly wait for my induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Don't I have the numbers to be inducted?" I am sorry Sammy, you may have the numbers, but certainly not the class necessary to be honoured next to names like Ruth, Gehrig, Williams, Mays, Aaron, and Spahn. It is not all about class though, Ty Cobb was certainly not the classiest of ball players but everything he did in his illustrious career was done without the use of perfomance enhancing drugs and a corked bat. Mr. Sosa, you and Mark McGwire orchestrated a lie in 1998. For that reason, none of your records should count for anything.
